Sevcon standard terms of employment for permanent employees include a 37 hour week, early finish on Fridays, 25 days per year paid holiday and a company final salary pension scheme.

Introduction
Sevcon is a market leader in controllers and accessories for battery powered vehicles. We have increased the size and strength of the engineering group over the last few years but need to further strengthen the R&D team based at Gateshead in North East England. New team members will need to be experienced engineers, the required level of experience depends on the particular job. Engineers will be involved with product development from initial concepts through to volume production. They must have the ability to analyse problems from first principles and come up with innovative and cost effective solutions. They must work well as part of a team but also be capable of working on their own to a specification and produce work meeting the company quality requirements.

Design and development in 3D CAD of enclosures for electronic controls which use a variety of metal and plastic parts.

Product design from concept to production.

Work in a cross functional team to achieve project objectives.

Design of injection moulded, die-cast, extruded, pressed metal and rubber parts.

Material and supplier selection.

Design for assembly.

Supervise technicians.

Work to company quality standards.
 
3D solid modelling using Solidworks, ProE or similar tools.

Product design for small to medium volume manufacturing (1k to 50k PA).

Design of electronic products with stringent requirements for environmental sealing and high vibration.

Injection moulding and die-casting design.

Use of analysis tools such as FMEA, Poke Yoke etc.

 
Design for off-shore manufacture (typically China, S. America).

Design of electronics cooling and heat transfer.

Design of pressed metal, extruded and rubber parts.

Familiar with the requirements of UL and CE approvals


Minimum Requirements
BEng or BSc or HND in mechanical engineering

Minimum 5 years relevant experience
